Durga Puja Starts from Mahalaya(also known as Pitripokho in Bengali)


By Hindu Lunar calendar, Mahalaya occurs on the last day of the dark fortnight in the month of Ashvin (28th September, Saturday 2019). On this day, Goddess Durga descends on Earth every year. Goddess Durga is believed to be the Goddess of ultimate power. Bengali remembers their ancestors on the day and offer tarpan.
